Blue Star Memorial
The Village of Pewamo recently relocated the Blue Star Memorial, a tribute dating back to 1949. The memorial was originally placed on the corner of Higham and Jefferson Streets, however it was feared that it was not receiving the recognition it deserved, which was the reason for the relocation to the Trailhead.
Blue Star Mothers were mothers of service men. A Gold Star Mother was the mother of a service man who gave his life in service. The Pewamo Chapter was formed in 1944. The war was a grave reality and these mothers were very busy making lap robes for Percy Jones Hospital, and raising funds so that they could remember their boys in service on their birthdays and at Christmas.
Pewamo thanks the Hubbardston American Legion Post 182 & the Pewamo Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 3733, Auxiliary VFW Post 3733 & Alma Smith for their donations towards the restoration and relocation. We also thank Mike Scollon & Rob Sterner for their efforts to relocate the memorial.

Mike Scollon Recognized for 30 Years
of Service as Pewamo DPW Supervisor
President Randy Zenk recognized Mike Scollon's 30 year anniversary as DPW Supervisor for the Village of Pewamo at the April Council Meeting.
Many milestones have been accomplished in the Village under Mike's direction.
Sesquicentennial Park and Pewamo Trailhead both exist because of his vision and direction!
Mike is a valuable asset to Pewamo for many other reasons, including overseeing the daily duties performed in the operation and maintenance of the Village and its infrastructure.
Mike was presented with Dan Arens' original sketch done in preparation for the Sesquicentennial Park Mural.
Mike stated that he and Rob Sterner both know there's no better Village to work for!
Pewamo thanks you Mike!

Pewamo Mural:
The Village of Pewamo was proud to unveil a new addition to Sesquicentennial Park at Block Party 2014. Due to generous donations received, the Village was able to commission Dan Arens of Westphalia to create a historic mural of the Pewamo Depot. Included in the mural is a tribute to our namesake, Chief Pewamo. We are very grateful to Dan and to the numerous benefactors who made this possible.
Here's a little secret....Dan hides a mouse in the murals he creates! Have you found the one hidden in the Pewamo mural?
And if you travel east to Fowler you can see another mural created by Dan, which was unveiled in the fall of 2015. Located on the north side of the Becker Furniture building, it's a beautiful display that celebrates Fowler's history and the Fred Meijer CIS Trail. The mural is visible from the trail, and also has a hidden mouse. Good luck finding it!

Originally settled in 1834, the Village of Pewamo was incorporated in 1859, and proudly celebrated its Sesquicentennial in 2009. Pewamo prides itself as a family friendly, zoned community where you can enjoy small town living, but still have easy access to the amenities offered by cities such as Lansing and Grand Rapids.
Recreation opportunities abound in Pewamo. We have a nine acre Village park with ball fields, tennis courts, pavilions and lots of playground equipment! We are very excited to have the Fred Meijer CIS Trail passing through Pewamo. We invite you to start your trail journey here or to stop and visit as you enjoy the trail. We have a beautiful trailhead, which is fashioned after the original depot. There are restrooms, picnic tables and a drinking fountain, which we hope will allow you to take a moment to rest and refresh.
Pewamo is also happy to have Huckleberry Creek Golf Course, which is only a short distance north of town and offers 18 holes of scenic golf! As a part of the P-W School District, Pewamo is proud of the educational opportunities they are able to offer. The Village is home to two elementary schools, one public and one private Catholic school. St. Joseph Catholic School is a 1st through 8th grade facility, which is fully accredited. Recently P-W Schools celebrated national recognition when U.S. News & World Report announced top high schools in the nation.
P-W High School was selected as a "Silver Medalist" (in the top 505). To put this in perspective, P-W was in the top 3% of high schools in the nation, and since then they have received more esteemed accolades and recognition in the field of education.
We invite you visit the websites of our schools. Links are provided under our "Schools" tab. Pewamo Village Citizens Guide and Performance Dashboard

Pewamo
I like to live in a little town, where
the trees meet across the street.
Where you wave your hand and say
"Hello" to everyone you meet.
I like to stand for a moment
outside the grocery store.
And listen to the friendly gossip
of the folks that live next door.
For life is interwoven
with the friends we learn to know.
And we hear their joys and sorrows
as we daily come and go.
I like to live in a little town.
I care no more to roam.
For every house in Pewamo
is more than a house...its home.
